Alcohol Extraction 420
How to make cannabis extracts with alchohol.
For edibles, smoking or sublingual tincture.
Equipment:
- Jar
- Pot and Stove
- Oven
Ingredients:
- Dank weed
- White distilled foodsafe alcohol
(as strong as possible: weak alcohol requires more time and volume) - Sugar (for cannasugar)
Step 1: Prepare Cannabis
The purpose of this step is to remove chlorophyll and water soluble impurities which overpower the subtle dank flavors.
Pick out any stems.
Soak in plenty of water and then rinse.
Perform 3 cycles of 1, 4 and 8+ hours respectively.
Dry the buds.
Step 2: Decarboxylate
The purpose of this step is to activate the dank.
Preheat the oven to 110C
Bake for 70 minutes
Step 3: Green Dragon
The purpose of this step is to infuse alcoholic tincture.
WARNING:
Quit now. Don't do this step or you will probably explode.
If you use a gas stove and heat the alcohol too much, then the fumes will explode.
It is safer to do it without heat, but takes much longer.
Mix spirit and weed in a jar so it swims about freely.
Put the jar in water and gently simmer the water to heat the alcohol.
Heat the alcohol to 76.5C. Expect to see little bubbles but it shouldn't boil at all (DANGER).
Strong Alcohol (70%+): 45 minutes.
Weak Alcohol (40%): 3 hours. Keep adding more alcohol throughout the infusion or else the alcohol will become too weak.
Strain away the plant material.
Step 4: Winterization
The purpose of this step is to filter oily impurities.
Put the alcohol tincture in the freezer for 24 hours.
Strain the mixture through a cheese cloth.
Step 5: Reduce
The purpose of this step is to create a finished product.
Reduce the alcohol in the sun, or in the oven (fire risk).
Option1: High Quality Green Dragon
Partially reduce the alcohol to the desired volume.
The finished product can be eaten, or taken under the tongue.
Taking green dragon under the tongue has faster onset and shorter duration than eating it.
Options2: Rick Simpson Oil
Fully reduce the alcohol to leave a pure extract residue.
The residue is potent and can be smoked or eaten.
Option3: Canna Sugar
Fully reduce the alcohol and add sugar towards the end of the reduction.
Store in a cool dry place.
Mix with honey for very long term storage.
Serve with tea or coffee.
